Get Yo Blog Organized, Girl!

Or boy, or whoever else reads this. 

I can't tell you how many times I've been asked "How do you juggle your blog, your shop and school plus being married?" or simply "how do you manage your blog?" so I figured I'd tell you.

Now, of course, there are multiple ways to organize yourself for blogging so what works for me may not work for everyone.

First off, here's what I typically have when I write:



I've got my cute little clipboard because I use that to just jot quick ideas when I'm not ready to sit down and write a post. Basically, I keep a running list of blog post ideas. I also use a sticky note on my computer and an inkpad app on my phone for when I'm not by my clipboard.

The calendar is something new. I typically use a planner when I'm in school but when I'm not in school, a calendar page is better for me. 

I use all the highlighters, a black pen and at least one other color pen.

This calendar is only for blogging. If you have a calendar that is for multiple things, I suggest using different colored pens to color code everything. It's important to be consistent when you do this so that you know, month to month, what each color is for. 

Since this one is only used for blogging, I'll show you what I do. I made this calendar in Microsoft word and I made it to fit as many weeks as I could, starting with the day I made the calendar, so that's why it doesn't actually line up with any of the months.


I use the highlighters to make color coded boxes. This way, I'm able to just glance at the calendar to see if i have too many of the same types of posts in a week. So, if I see more than one orange box, for example, I know I need to tone it down on reviews and sponsored posts. 


The next thing I do is go through and write all of the main posts of the month. These are things that I'm hosting or a giveaway or just some important posts I have specific dates for. Then I go through and color those boxes.

After that, I go through my list of blog post ideas and just plan those out with the rest of the days. I only post Monday-Friday unless I just have something specific I need to get out on a Saturday or Sunday.


I use a different colored pen to go through and schedule the other blogging "To do's" like answering emails or writing sponsor spotlights and things like that. 

I also go through with my black pen and write the days those sponsor spotlights are going to go up across the top of the calendar page.

Then, when I'm done with the calendar for now, I hang it up on my filing box on a bookshelf that is near my desk. 


I actually have another post planned to show you what that is used for, but for now, I'll just tell you that I like having this calendar right here so I can just glance at it and see what is going on. I also go through as I write the posts needed to write and check mark them so that I know they are written and scheduled. 

It seems to be a system that works pretty well and I hope I've inspired you to get more organized with your blog! It is so nice to know when things are coming up and not get overwhelmed with a ton of things to do at once!

You know what. I need to do this. I come up with ideas I forget to write down then I get all frustrated when I can't remember or busy days come up and I feel like I have to rush content. Organizing it all ahead of time is so brilliant.

Love the calendar! I am a big fan of color coding and having different pens for different things. My regular planner is like this, I just need to get as organized with my blog! Sounds like a perfect new years resolution, lol :)

Great suggestions! I currently use a 5-Subject Notebook, which I have gotten semi-organized... but I like how you color-code things, so you don't end up with too much of one particular thing going on from week to week ;)

What a great system! I too color-code everything but I do it with sticky notes so that if I need to, I can easily move things around. Which tends to happen a lot!

In my portuguese blog I make a list with I did or what I want to do, then I sit on the computer and I write about my ideas and save it. Some days later I like to read and usually I change some phrases ou I write a little more about it.
So I see date I which can publish every post. :)
