Bringing the Christmas Spirit Back

Years and years ago on a far away planet... Okay, I'm totally kidding. It was this planet but it was years and years ago.  I had a major Christmas spirit. If it jingled, sang, ho ho ho'd, or resembled anything Christmas-y at all, I was all over it. Then something changed. A few things happened in my life around the holidays that just made me so depressed. So depressed that I hated Christmas. Then, there was last year. This is what was waiting for me under the tree:

You see, Cody is really into Christmas. His mom was really into it and that, of course, spread to her son. So me not being into Christmas was just kind of upsetting to him. So he set out to change it.

I looked at this box and had no idea what was in it. I did have a clue as to what he was getting me for Christmas, but when I saw this box, it completely threw me off and I had no idea and that actually made me grumpier!

I opened this box and saw this:

Then I opened that one to reveal this:

Finally, I opened that one to reveal a ton of tissue paper. Under the tissue paper was this:

It was actually wrapped in a ribbon, so I untied the ribbon to reveal this beauty:

His grandmother had already given me a topaz ring that I had opened about 20 minutes prior, so I looked at Cody and teasingly asked him "So what is this ring for?" 

He took it from my hands and kind of sat up on both knees (he was sitting on the floor and I was on the couch) and he asked

"Will you marry me?"

I swear I am not making this part up, my ears filled and his voice sounded so far away, yet so clear at the same time. It was truly an out of body experience. I am honestly surprised that my voice was completely steady when I said "yes"

and then he put the ring on my finger and kissed me.

With that he successfully restored my belief that on Christmas, all things great and beautiful and perfect could happen.

Of course, now when you ask Cody what I got him for our first Christmas together, he replies with "A wife." which completely turns my knees to jelly but is also impossible to top!
