Medical Monday

Imagine my surprise
when after I decided to do medical Mondays about my nursing school experience,
I ran into a blog hop called Medical Monday!

So today I want to share with you a little bit about my first week of the 3rd semester of nursing school
and then we'll jump right into the blog hop.

If you have a blog that is in any way related to the medical profession,
link on up and go meet some fabulous people!

This semester is my 3rd semester of a bachelor degree program, meaning I have two more semesters left.
The way my program works is that you do a year and a half of pre-reqs (3 semesters)
and then 5 semesters of actual nursing classes.
So when I say that I'm in 3rd semester,
that means I'm in the 3rd semester of the 5 semesters of nursing classes.

The short version: This is my second year of nursing classes and 4th year of college (I'll actually have 4.5 yrs when I graduate)

This semester I'm in OB and peds clinicals.

I'm excited for a lot of reasons and nervous for a few others.

First off, I'm over the "oh god, what if I kill somebody phase" so that's good.

I'm super excited to help deliver some babies. I'm so lucky that my school is one that is very hands on and let's us get into the thick of it, so to speak.

The idea of measuring a cervix or inspecting a placenta to make sure the whole placenta came out doesn't bother me at all. I think it's so cool! It's amazing what our bodies can do.

I am nervous for my peds clinical. First off, we're in a children's hospital, meaning that it's beyond sore throats and hurt ears. These kids are sick. It's going to be so hard to see.

Alot of my classmates are nervous about talking to parents (you guys freak us out!) but luckily, I've already dealt with some awesome parents in my other clinicals (And some not so awesome ones...).

Anyway, this semester is going to be a struggle, but an exciting one.
I'll be sure to keep you guys updated as much as I can! (legally, I can't put too much online)

I also wanted to mention here, since we're on the topic of school, that a lot of my blogging time has been eaten up. I haven't been responding to emails/tweets as fast or as much as I was. I promise I'm reading them, usually on a bathroom break before running off to see a patient or help someone with theirs and I so appreciate them. Seriously, they get me through the long school day. So thank you everyone for not getting upset with me and my internet flakiness lately!

Now onto the hop!

We're thrilled to have you here for our second Medical Monday!
