Well, we have reached the end of my wedding recap series. It has been so much fun to share my wedding with all of you and so much fun to relive the trip of a lifetime for me! I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.
As promised, here are the top 10 tips that I have if you are considering an elopement.
(1)
Make sure it’s really what you want. If you have
even the slightest feeling that you don’t want it, then think about it some
more before you actually make the plans.
(2)
Don’t take the cheap route. If you are like me,
you planned an elopement because a big wedding was not making you happy. Even
though our elopement trip turned out wayyy cheaper than a big wedding would
have, we still stayed in an amazing cabin, got a package for our elopement that
fit us, and did everything we wanted to do while we were there.
(3)
Consider taking some friends/another couple.
That is probably one thing I loved. For one, they wanted time together so Cody
and I didn’t feel like we were entertaining all the time but at the same time,
Cody had a guy to hang out with while I was doing girly things. Plus, my best friend still got to be there while I was getting ready.
(4)
Don’t get hung up on missing wedding traditions.
There were times I got a little sad I wasn’t having a bridal shower and every
time I had to stop myself because to get what you want, sometimes you have to
give up something you really didn’t care about in the first place.
(5)
This kind of goes with tip 4. Make a wedding
look the way you want it to look. All you need to get married is you, the
person you are marrying, a marriage license and an officiant. Anything else is
extra which means your wedding doesn’t have to follow the traditional layout,
which for me was a night ceremony with a singer and a reader and a night
reception with full bar and dancing…which turns out is super expensive!
(6)
If you decide to tell your family, ask if you
can arrange a bbq or something low key if celebrating with your family means a
lot to you. Part of the reason that we didn’t have a big wedding was that I
didn’t want to invite certain people I felt obligated to invite. I called up my
aunt a week before and told her about us getting married and asked if we could
all get together the following weekend and they were all for it! It was awesome
and I got the best of both worlds.
(7)
If you can’t decide if it’s what you want, have
your fiancĂ© and you make a list. Cody’s was just that we were married. Mine
included things like wanting to wear my dress, get good pics and a couple of
other things. Since none of them included a huge wedding, we decided not to
waste the money. If either one of you wants a big wedding, then a compromise
needs to be made.
(8)
Don’t expect everyone to always want to talk
about your wedding. This was one thing that got kind of sad for me. Since no
one was going, no one really wanted to talk about it at all. I got over it
eventually.
(9)
Do your research. When you travel to get
married, there are always differences than if you had gotten married at home.
Cody and I got married in our home state so we got our marriage license at
home. If we hadn’t, we would have had to make sure to arrive there early to go
get it. Other places require residency in the place you get married. It’s
different state to state and country to country.
(10)
Relax and have fun! One of the best things I did
the whole trip was to make myself stay off of social media and my phone for the
majority of the time. It really made me have such a great time in the moment
with the people there!

Like your tips! You are so right! 1. Make sure you really want eloping 2. Have fun! :)
I wanted to elope soooo bad , or at least just go to Miami with our immediate family only but my mom wouldn't let me! I love your tips! Maybe one day we'll renew our vows and pretend we're eloping!
Great tips, coming from someone stuck in between eloping and a wedding... Any tips on breaking the news to your devastated parents that you aren't going to be having a wedding that they can attend? That's really the hard part for me. My family would be very disappointed but I know in the end they'd understand...
Great tips. I shall have to remember it when I am getting married. :)

Thanks for sharing these!! Something I'm considering doing when the time comes, so it was great to hear from someone who has been there done that! :)
this is super interesting! i thought about havnig a destination wedding - semi eloping (it would have been super super small) - but i'm way too much of a party planner and have a huge family and wanted to be able to share it with everyone and so we went traditional huge wedding - and i loved it - but sometimes i wonder what it would have been like to do this - i guess its different for everyone!
